Woke up Monday morning and went straight for a great 3km(20 laps) ocean swim at Nelson Park. Great start to training week(so I thought). What followed was gradual deterioration in my left eye. The most painful experience. My eyes went red, swollen and felt like someone was putting a knife into my eye. I ended up at Eye Emergency ward around lunchtime to find out I had scratched my whole cornea (reason why I was in so much pain).
Cause:(my theory), I used shampoo to clean my googles, then rinsed with salt water. I think somehow this irritated my eye. The doctor thinks I might have got some sand, and accidently scratched my eye, but I don't remember this.
Advice: So in future- I will just use good old saliva to clean my googles.
Picture was taken on Wednesday(cornea is fastest healing part of body)
So no swimming for 1 week-so cornea can recover, and it has ended up being a RECOVERY week so far.
Friday- I will attempt to tracycle on the indoor trainer for 1 hr- and hopefully not get any sweat into my eye.
In life unexpected things happen, so going with the flow, and not stressing out too much about missed workouts.
